Imported several decades ago,

The Nilgai, or Blue Indian Antelope, has proliferated in South Texas. Fortunately not overrun with these animals, the Mariposa Ranch has healthy herds that roam freely. Extremely elusive and weighing up to 700 pounds, the Nilgai is not only difficult to hunt, but even tougher to bring down. A magnum caliber rifle and a well placed shot are essential.

Nilgai is a unique and delicious meat. We typically hear from hunters that the only meat better that they’ve tasted has come from the Elon animal directly from Africa. We will gladly give you culinary suggestions on how to prepare the meat when you successfully leave the ranch.

We have a package two day safari style hunts for nilgai that includes lodging and food and one nilgai per hunter (plus 2 pigs and 1 javalina) for $4,600 per hunter and $1,400 for non-hunter.

We also offer a day hunt (no food or lodging) using our vehicle and our guide @ $1,000 per truck for up to three hunters for four hours per day. There is also a trophy fee of $2,000 for a bull and $1000 for a cow with this option.  Please contact our front gate office at 361-325-2848 if you are interested in this option.

Field dressing is included, however, there is a $400 fee for butchering (skin&quarter) in either scenario.
